Immortal Embrace, by Charlotte Blackwell, is a must read!

Immortal Embrace (Embrace, #1)Immortal Embrace by Charlotte Blackwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Immortal Embrace is a delightful read! Charlotte Blackwell spins a terrific story, building intrigue in layers that keeps you turning the pages for more. In the past I have been turned off of most vampire novels, but Charlotte has completely won me over, and I am now seeking out other vampire stories.

Sophia Pierce is a young woman who was turned, or embraced, and has learned to live as a vampire through those who have become her family. She meets a young man, and the story takes off in a wonderful romance with lots of mystery and magic to make this one of the more enjoyable reads I've picked up in awhile..

Charlotte does an excellent job of building suspence. The depth of Sophia Pierce, her background, and the level of vampire mythology and magic, as well as the characters, pulled me in, and before I knew it I was so hooked I couldn't let it go, had to continue right on into the next novel of this series--and come back later to write this review:) I thoroughly enjoyed Immortal Embrace and highly recommend it to adult paranormal lovers and ya paranormal lovers alike. I gave this novel 5 stars.--a must read!

A great read!

Deception(LS, #2)Deception by Kelvin O'Ralph
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love paranormal novels and really enjoyed the paranormal elements and the magical elements of LS Deception. I found the first one, LS The Beginning, left me with questions and this one answered those questions but also opened the door to yet more possibilities and mystery, and I love the intensity between the characters.

If I could have one thing, I would love to see more of what is going on deep inside Stephen. His cousin is like quicksilver, but I won't give anything away:) Let's just say she is and intriguing. I enjoyed this book, gave it four stars for a must read and highly recommend it to YA and adults alike.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Thanksgiving Comments & Graphics
Magickal Graphics

This year I am thankful for my soft place to land, even though he had absolutely no reason to do so, and even though his fears would make it difficult, it is a roof over my head, and for that I am truly thankful. I am thankful for my family for putting up with me this year. It was the most difficult year of my life, and that is saying alot. I've lived through things I shouldn't have survived.

I'm thankful to my children. I know I've worried you. I'm especially thankful to my youngest son for not letting the fact that I pretty much went off the deep end this year scare him into avoiding me. It only takes a little bit of crazy to scare the hell out of people. And you're pretty fearless and stayed right by my side. You would always try to be there, even when I was at my worse and I'm sure you would have liked to be just about anywhere else. And to my my oldest son, you are always so very kind to me. And my daughter, you were willing to do a very difficult thing for me. And to my middle son, I will always love you, and I do not blame you for how angry you are with me right now. Everyone of us has a right to how we feel. I will not try to censor or control yours. I love you all. I know you have not understood some of my choices. Sometimes I don't understand them either. But I always feel our Great Mother watching over us. And I always come out stronger.

I'm thankful for all my angels and guides for brining me through my dark night of my soul. I see the light of day, now, and I'm thankful I've survived. I'm thankful to myself for having the strength to reach for life, even when all I wanted to do was quit and cease to exist. I'm thankful for the wisdom to know I would be glad I made it through, even when I was screaming in my car so no one else would know. I'm especially thankful for my friends for reaching out when I most needed it and trying to help me through. I will never forget it.

I love you all so much. I'm thankful to my fans. Manyof my friends and family helped to save my life. But writing saved my sanity. I threw myself into my writing and my blogs. It took up all my time and provided a chance to heal. It also gave me a place to express myself in creative and healing ways. Her Broken Wings Could Fly is allowings me to do so with a out censor. Thank you for putting up with me when I hit a wall and didn't update my blogs:) You all are the greatest.

Most of all I'm thankful for the divine--How could anyone ever question all the help we truly get. It is the reason we make it through. It's in the soft petal of a flower, the sun's rays upon the damp earth, the ocean's waves upon the sandy beach, and the crest of the mountain top. We are loved. May we always have some place inside that knows it, even when we're in our darkest hour. And so I say I'm grateful mother. I am your daughter, and I am grateful mother. And I love you so.

My Review: Note: We don't normally review urban fantasy here on Bitten but this was a special request and it kinda blurs the lines between paranormal romance and urban fantasy. What creative characters and an imaginative story line Wolfe has come up with! It is a delightful foray into the legends of Atlantis, King Arthur and the Faerie Kingdoms combined with past lives of the female lead. Jaguar shifters, a Starbourne, a master illusionist, a shaman, the fey, the Queen of Darkness, zombies, a medallion, a special doorway, a soul thief and a journey round out the story. Mira, the female lead, has always just known things and has been able to tell how people felt. She meets a jaguar shifter who, after almost giving her a heart attack, tells her she needs to go to Denver on a journey where four men will help her find the answers. She learns later all four are immortal and they had all loved one of her past life selves. And because these woman are still apart of her, all four are her soulmates. This is an urban fantasy story that flirts with being a paranormal romance. There are a couple of steamy scenes with the female lead and two of the four soulmates (individually, not a three-some). The other two soulmates are kinda left out in the cold. {grin} This could make a great full length novel by adding more to the exploration of the relationship with each soulmate and their interactions with each other. As it is, the main characters are mostly on the go trying to complete the journey all the while the main antagonist is hurling obstacles in their way. I enjoyed this story and I think urban fantasy and fantasy fans will like this as well.

This story pulled me in from the start and wouldn't let me go....

Miranda's review Nov 10, 11 Read in October, 2011 I got this book as part of the Adopt an Indie event going on right now. This is the first work of Lenore Wolf that I have read and let me tell you I will be going back to check out what else she has available. This story pulled me in from the start and wouldn’t let me go till I had finished it. The way she weaves emotion throughout the book is very well done from the pain of losing loved ones, to the true hatred of those that took them. The strength of a woman determined to keep what is rightfully hers, to a love that comes on so fast and so strong it scares both involved. I loved how Amanda would do anything to keep what is hers. Her strength, determination, and faith in herself and her spiritual teachings. It is an inspiration to us all. I loved the weaving of romance, mystery, and intense spiritual belief that comes out of the pages. A great western romance, with a twist that pierces your heart. Amanda and Hawk are a couple you want to root for, though at times you want to shake one of them and say wake up, look right in front of you.http://authorlenorewolfe.blogspot.com

She would survive what few could and live to prove...her broken wings could fly....

Kergan Edwards-Stout's Songs of Depression

Songs for the New Depression

"Kergan Edwards-Stout infuses reality and hopefulness into a bittersweet story about compassion and personal growth. A distinctively entertaining novel written with moxie and bolstered by pitch-perfect perspectives." Kirkus Discoveries

Gabriel Travers knows he's dying; he just can't prove it. Despite his doctor's proclamations to the contrary and rumors of a promising new HIV drug cocktail, all it takes is one glance into the mirror to tell Gabe everything he needs to know. His ass, once the talk of West Hollywood, now looks suspiciously like a Shar-Pei, prompting even more talk around town.

Back in his 20's, life had been so easy. Caught up in the 1980's world of LOVE! MONEY! SEX!, Gabe thought he'd have it all. But every effort to better himself ended in self-sabotage, and every attempt at love left him with only a fake number, scrawled on a realtor's notepad.

The only happiness he could remember was in high school, where he'd met Keith, his first love. Only Keith had recognized the goodness within, and knew of the brutal attack Gabe had faced, the effects of which still rule his life today.

Now almost 40, and with the clock ticking, Gabe begins to finally peel back the layers and tackle his demons - with a little help from the music of the Divine Miss M and his mom's new wife, a country music-loving priest.

Kergan Author B&W Lo (901x1280)

"Kergan Edwards-Stout has crafted a work of fiction reminiscent of some classic tales in Songs for the New Depression. Even better, Edwards-Stout's debut boasts the kind of dark humor that made Augusten Burroughs a household name." Advocate.com

"Kergan Edwards-Stout's Songs for the New Depression is a bold reminder that life, especially in its most difficult moments, is worth living. His characters are real and poignant, his writing is magical, and his message is timeless. Life is at its most precious when we are faced with our own mortality. It is an important book." Charles Perez, author of Confessions of a Gay Anchorman and founder of the No Shame Project

"Songs for the New Depression carries you away on waves of humor and sadness as we follow the protagonist as he deals with his search for love, acceptance and his battle with AIDS. Far from being maudlin, it is extremely sensitive and ennobling. A fine work that will leave you wanting more." Robert Michael Morris, star of TV's The Comeback and author of An American Scrapbook
